| OUR MISSION |
American Corners & Educational Advising Center (EAC)
The American Corners (Mary, Turkmenabat, Dashoguz) and the
Educational Advising Center (Ashgabat) in Turkmenistan work to promote
mutual understanding between the United States and Turkmenistan by making
available information about the political, economic, cultural, educational
and social life in the United States.
The American Corners are freely accessible to students, non-governmental
organizations, the private sector, government officials and ordinary
citizens who wish to learn more, study or establish contact with
counterparts in the United States.
The staff of the American Corners and the EAC put a priority on reaching
diverse populations and educating a wide variety of potential applicants
interested in academic programs in the U.S.
Each American Corner/EAC has a free public-access Internet center, library,
advising center, and classroom/lecture hall. The libraries are fully stocked
with English language teaching materials and books (fiction and
non-fiction); current magazines/periodicals; academic catalogues;
encyclopedias, dictionaries, and other reference materials; and educational
videos/DVDs.
The American Corners and the EAC host a variety of daily events, including
classes ranging from conversational English and American culture to academic
writing and debate. The American Corners and EAC also sponsor regular
lectures on educational opportunities, movie nights, and lectures by
visiting guest speakers.
Each American Corner/EAC reaches over 1000 individuals per month. This
includes individuals visiting the libraries, utilizing the Internet, and
attending consultations on educational topics, lectures, clubs, summer camps
and other activities hosted by the American Corners/EAC. |
